Infrared cameras translate the warmth signatures of objects into shades with a gradient scale, with greater temperatures appearing as lighter hues, and reduce temperatures and wet spots showing up as darker hues.  Also referred to as thermal imaging and thermography, IR engineering captures the light that exists just outdoors the visible spectrum.
